Point to Ponder: It's important to remember that your herdsire is your investment for the future. If you use a lower quality buck, you will not improve your gene pool, and you may end up with genetic flaws that you will spend a lot of time trying to correct. A well-fed, properly cared for doe herd translates into healthy, fast-growing kids. If you are interested in starting your own herd, remember to select your foundation stock from healthy herds that are free of disease and genetic disorders. You'll pay more for animals that are healthy and carry good genetics, but it will be worth it in the long run. Remember the old saying: "You get what you pay for."
